An elderly man with Parkinson's disease and Alzheimer's disease took 10 medications and suffered unexplained bruises when he died at an Australian geriatric care facility. His widow told a survey of the $20 billion ($14 billion) geriatric care department.
The Royal Council's investigation into the Australian geriatric care industry began on Monday after numerous reports of dementia patients being restricted, attacked, overdosed, predatory pricing and inappropriate care.
The first witness to the survey, Barbara Spriggs, whose husband died in 2016 at the Older Mental Health Service in Auckden, South Australia, said she did not know why her husband died.
"He was overmedicated, severely bruised, dehydrated and suffering from pneumonia. To this day, I don't know what happened to Bob, "Spriggs said in a survey in Adelaide, South Australia.
