Kansas City Federal Reserve Bank President Ester George said Tuesday that she supports a moratorium on interest rate hikes so that the Federal Reserve can assess the extent of its past interest rate hikes to the economy.
"Let's take a step back and see what happens," said George in an audience in Kansas City, who last month expressed support for the Bank of America's move and said that no more rate hikes were yet prepared.
George is a voter of interest rate policy decision-making at the Federal Reserve this year and until recently an outspoken advocate of monetary tightening. But last month she voted in favour of the Fed's policy statement, which cancelled the long-term language and pointed out the need for further interest rate increases.
On Tuesday, George said that inflationary pressures did not seem intense and people were worried about the strength of the global economy, reflecting the decision made by Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell last month.
