U.S. Agriculture Secretary Robert Perdue said Thursday that once Washington and Beijing reach a trade agreement, the lost market share of U.S. agricultural products in China can be quickly restored.
He said China was committed to buying "a large number" of U.S. agricultural products, but "the premise of these proposals is a major agreement between the two sides", which must include China's guarantee on intellectual property issues.
"I think if we get China's assurance of serious treatment of intellectual property theft, then we can see the resumption and expansion of agricultural trade," he told reporters on the sidelines of the USDA annual forum in Washington.
