Turkey ordered the arrest of 295 serving soldiers on Friday and accused them of links to the network of Fethullah Gulen, an American Muslim cleric who Ankara said planned an attempted coup in 2016, the prosecutor's office said.
The statement said those facing detention included three colonels, eight professionals and ten lieutenants, about half of whom were suspected in the army and the rest in other armed forces, including the Navy and air force.
The prosecutor's office said police launched an arrest operation at 1 a.m. (22 GMT) to investigate the pay phone calls between suspected agents Gulen. It is not clear how many suspects have been detained so far.
