BHP.AX, a mining giant, said on Thursday that China's regional initiative would run through more than half of the world's population, which could increase copper consumption by 1 million 600 thousand tonnes, equivalent to 7% of the annual demand for BLT.L.
BHP Billiton said that the number of cooperative countries along the China side has increased to 115, covering Europe, Asia, Africa, Latin America and Oceania.
BHP Billiton's latest analysis estimates that in the 10 years of 2023, the area will drive up to US $1 trillion and 300 billion in related expenses.
Vicky Binns, BHP's vice president of mineral marketing, told Reuters it was conservative to say that demand for refined copper would rise by 1.6 million tons during this period.
Over 70% of these requirements come from 100 power projects along the way.
