According to a press release released Sunday by the China Foreign Trade Center, the Canton Fair shows that China's foreign trade situation is still complex and grim, with 80.6% of enterprises expecting exports in 2018 to be better or even than last year. However, in view of the rising cost of domestic raw materials, labor and other comprehensive factors, and the increasing impact of Sino-US trade frictions on the external environment, exhibitors also believe that the export situation next year is not optimistic.
At the closing press conference of the 124th Canton Fair, Xu Bing, Deputy Secretary-General of the Canton Fair, spokesman and Vice-Director of China Foreign Trade Center, said that the number of overseas buyers and export transactions of the current Canton Fair had declined slightly from the same period last year. The 189812 purchasers came from 215 countries and regions, down 1.11% from the same period last year. Export turnover of 206 billion 494 million yuan (equivalent to 29 billion 860 million U.S. dollars), down 1% over the same period last year.
From the market point of view, transactions with Japan, ASEAN, BRICS and Korea increased by 74.4%, 11.4%, 7.2% and 2.5% respectively, while traditional markets such as the United States, Australia, Canada and the European Union decreased by 30.3%, 8.9%, 7.3% and 0.8% respectively.
From the perspective of industry, transportation, machinery and equipment, building and decorative materials, electronic consumer goods and information products, sanitary and bathroom equipment increased by 24.8%, 21.1%, 20.0%, 15.1%, and 7.6%, respectively, while textile, clothing and household appliances decreased by 13.0% and 6.7%, respectively.
