Chief Executive Officer of Alibaba laid off staff this year

      Despite the slowdown in China's economy, Alibaba Group Holdings Ltd. expects to lay off workers this year, CEO Daniel Zhang said on Friday.
These comments contradict Chinese media reports and market speculation about cutbacks in China's Internet industry and callbacks in China's Internet industry because of weak domestic demand and ongoing trade disputes with the United States.

"Not only will we not lay off employees this year, but we will continue to use the resources on our platform to increase consumption and bring more orders for manufacturing and services," Zhang said on Weibo.

"When the economy is depressed, the biggest advantage of online platforms is job creation."
This week, Chinese media reported that e-commerce websites and Alibaba rival Jingdong will lay off 10% of its senior managers. The company declined to comment directly on the layoffs.
A few days ago, the CEO traveling by the company said that it would lay off 15% of its employees, but added that it planned to add more jobs to its new role.
