MPC member Haskel of the Bank of England called the vote

      The newly appointed MPC member, Haskell, said he would like to see clear evidence of rising inflation before voting in favour of raising borrowing costs. He is the latest Bank of England official to express caution about the need to raise interest rates.
Haskell, who became a member of the Bank of England's Monetary Policy Committee in September, told the Financial Times that he would "absolutely" wait until he saw a specific signal of rising inflation before voting for an interest rate hike.
His views coincide with the Bank of England's more cautious stance on the UK economy last month, which was influenced not only by Britain's withdrawal from Europe, but also by a slowdown in global growth.
"As economists, if we see changes in output, we want to see how prices will change to see whether they are supply-side or demand-side," Haskell said in an interview published on Thursday.
The central view of the Bank of England is that, assuming that the process of Britain's withdrawal from Europe is smooth, it is necessary to raise interest rates in a limited and gradual manner in the next few years.
Haskell said that since the Bank of England raised interest rates to a new high of 0.75% in August 2018 after the financial crisis, "everything has been dominated by the British retreat".
Given the uncertainty of the impact of the British withdrawal on the UK, he said, the MPC currently does not have much time to discuss general issues such as productivity.
