U.S. demands that China ease restrictions on technology companies

      The Financial Times (FT) on Sunday quoted three people familiar with the matter as saying that on the eve of a new round of high-level trade talks this week, China refused to give in to the United States'demand to relax restrictions on foreign technology companies.
The Financial Times reported that the United States had asked China to stop discriminating against foreign cloud computing providers, reduce restrictions on data transmission overseas and relax requirements for enterprises to store data locally, but China had not made "significant concessions".
The report quotes a source as saying that the United States does not believe that China's initial proposals for digital trade are sufficient.
The report said that after the United States asked China to make a stronger commitment, China immediately withdrew the proposal. The report did not provide further details.
The White House and China's Ministry of Commerce did not respond to Reuters'request for comment on Sunday.
Earlier, US President Trump said that trade talks with China were progressing and that a final agreement could be reached.
