Japan Display will supply OLED for Apple Watch

      Two sources pointed out that JDI (6740.T) will start supplying organic light emitting diode (OLED) panels for Apple Watch later this year, bringing a major breakthrough for the cash-strapped company. Japanese monitors previously missed many Apple (AAPL.O) orders because of the slow pace of moving to OLED panels.
The supply order will mark the entry of Japanese displays into the OLED panel market, the two sources said. They refused to be named because they were not authorized to talk to the media.
The core LCD business of displays in Japan continues to suffer as Apple has recently reduced its use of LCD panels and the poor sales of its only LCD panel phone, the iPhone XR, in 2018.
OLED panel market is currently dominated by Samsung Electronics (005930. KS) Samsung Display and LG Display (034220. KS).
