Wirtschafts Woche said Wednesday that China Huawei had offered Berlin to sign a "spy-free agreement" to address security concerns about the Chinese company's involvement in building Germany's next-generation 5G mobile infrastructure.
"Last month, we consulted with the German Ministry of the Interior and said that we were ready to sign a spy-free agreement with the German government, and promised that Huawei would not install any backdoors in the network," German Economic Weekly quoted Ren Zhengfei as its chief executive.
He called on the Chinese government to sign a similar spy-free agreement and abide by EU data protection law.
Last month, Germany set stricter standards for network equipment suppliers. Instead of listing Huawei as a special target, it said that the same rules should apply to all suppliers.
