U.S. President Trump said Monday that Iran would encounter "powerful forces" if it tried to do anything against U.S. interests in the Middle East. He added that Iran had always been hostile to the United States.
Trump told reporters as he left the White House for Pennsylvania that he was willing to talk to Iran when it was "ready", but there was no negotiation.
Trump tweeted Sunday that a clash would be Iran's "real end". This heightens fears of a possible conflict between the United States and Iran. Iran responded Monday by urging the United States to respect Iran rather than threaten war. Nevertheless, Trump made the remarks on Monday.
"With regard to Iran, we will see what happens," Trump told reporters Monday. "But they have been very hostile. They have indeed been the number one instigators of terrorist acts."
"I think if Iran acts rashly, they are wrong. If they do anything, they will certainly encounter powerful forces, but we have no indication that they will do so, "Trump said.
