Zarif held a press conference with Iraqi Foreign Minister Mohammed al-Hakim in Baghdad to express Iran's desire to establish a balanced relationship with the Gulf Arab countries and to propose a non-aggressive agreement with them.
"We will resist any war attempts against Iran, whether economic or military, and we will use our strength to face them," he said.
Relations between the United States and Iran have become more tense since the attack on Saudi oil tankers in the Gulf this month. Saudi Arabia is Iran's long-standing enemy in the Gulf. As a strong supporter of Saudi Arabia, the United States counts the attack on Iran.
Iran has cleared its relationship with these attacks, but the United States has sent an aircraft carrier and 1,500 troops to the Gulf region, raising concerns about a possible conflict in the region.
Iran's Foreign Minister Zarif said on Saturday that the U.S. decision to deploy more troops to the Middle East in response to the hypothetical Iranian threat "seriously endangers" peace.
"Americans have made such accusations in order to rationalize their hostile policies and increase tensions in the Persian Gulf region," Zarif told the Islamic Republic of Iran News Agency (IRNA).
"It is very dangerous for the United States to strengthen its deployment in our region, which threatens international peace and security and should be addressed," he said.
Hakim said Iraq supports Iran and is willing to act as mediator between Iran and the United States. Referring to U.S. sanctions, he added that Iraq did not believe that the "economic blockade" would be effective.
