U.S. President Trump said Thursday that the United States has performed well in trade negotiations with China and that Beijing hopes to reach an agreement with Washington.
"China is willing to reach an agreement with us. We had an agreement, but they broke it, and I don't think they would do it if they came back, "Trump told reporters as he left the White House to deliver his commencement address to the American Air Force Academy in Colorado.
Trump said U.S. tariffs on Chinese goods are prompting manufacturers in China to leave China and move to other countries.
"China subsidizes products, so American taxpayers spend very little money," Trump said. He pointed out that tariffs had little effect on inflation.
"I think we have done a good job in our negotiations with China."
