Abbas Araqchi, Iran's special envoy and deputy foreign minister, said that European countries had shown too little sincerity in recent negotiations to persuade Iran to abandon its plan to break the Iranian nuclear agreement.
Diplomats say Iran will break the upper limit of uranium enrichment stipulated in the nuclear agreement with major powers in 2015 in a few days. A week ago, Washington suddenly called a halt to air strikes against Iran.
After the U.S. withdrew from the Iranian nuclear agreement last year, the big powers remaining in the agreement -- Britain, Germany, France, Russia and China -- held emergency talks with Iranian officials in Vienna on Friday in the hope of persuading Tehran not to break the uranium enrichment limit.
Araqchi said the talks were "a step forward, but not enough to meet Iran's expectations".
Ultimately, he said, his senior officials in Tehran would need to decide whether to cancel plans to break through the limits of the nuclear agreement, but he thought the outcome of the talks was unlikely to change their minds.
