Japan's Yomiuri Shimbun reported Tuesday that Japanese and South Korean officials planned to hold talks as early as this week on Japan's export restrictions, which have intensified diplomatic disputes between the two countries.
Japan last week announced restrictions on the export of high-tech raw materials for Smartphone displays and chips to South Korea. It further escalated the dispute between the two sides over the forced expropriation of Korean labour by Japanese enterprises during World War II.
The report did not quote sources saying that negotiations would take place in Japan.
A spokesman for Korea's Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Resources said that South Korea was discussing the time and issues of bilateral negotiations with Japan, but had not yet made any decision.
