Japan says restrictions on exports to South Korea

      An official from Japan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Friday that Japan's measures to restrict the export of important scientific and technological materials to South Korea were not intended to retaliate against a dispute over forced labour by Japanese enterprises in World War II.
The official, who asked for anonymity, also pointed out that these restrictions were "necessary measures related to security".
Officials from both countries will meet on Friday to discuss Japan's restrictions.
