Tensions between the United States and Iraq have escalated since Trump withdrew from the nuclear agreement reached between the major powers and Iran last year. According to the Iranian nuclear agreement, Iran agreed to reduce its nuclear program in exchange for the lifting of sanctions by the international community.
Since then, the U.S. government has re-imposed severe sanctions to cut off Iran's oil exports, using this "extreme pressure" policy to force Iran to agree to tighter restrictions on its nuclear capabilities, to stop its ballistic missile program and to stop supporting the Middle East's proxy armed forces.
Since May, the outside world has been more concerned about the outbreak of direct conflict between the United States and Iraq. During this period, there were several attacks on oil tankers in the Gulf, Iran shot down a U.S. unmanned reconnaissance aircraft, and the United States planned an air strike on Iran in June, and Trump cancelled the operation at the last minute.
Khamenei said Tuesday that Tehran would continue to lift restrictions on its nuclear activities under the nuclear agreement and retaliate against the detention of an Iranian oil tanker. The nuclear agreement was signed by Iran with Britain, the United States, France, Germany, Russia and medium-sized powers.
Khamenei condemned the failure of Britain, Germany and France to fulfil their obligations under the agreement to allow Iran to resume international trade, especially Iranian oil exports sanctioned by the United States.
