Britain is weighing how to deal with the Persian Gulf oil tanker crisis

Britain weighed the next step in dealing with the Persian Gulf oil tanker crisis on Sunday, but had no solution. Records showed that three days ago the Iranian military disregarded a warning from a British warship and forcibly boarded and detained a British tanker.
The Office of British Prime Minister Theresa May said she would chair a meeting of the Emergency Response Committee on Monday morning to discuss the crisis.
Britain has yet to reveal how it will deal with the crisis. On Friday, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard landed from helicopter rope in the Strait of Hormuz to the tanker Stena Impero and seized it, apparently in retaliation for the British seizure of an Iranian tanker two weeks ago.
Video footage taken by Reuters from an Iranian news agency on Sunday showed the tanker currently docked at an Iranian port and hung an Iranian flag.
The British government is expected to announce its next move in a speech to Parliament on Monday. But Gulf experts say Britain has little to do with the maximum economic sanctions imposed by the United States and the ban on all Iranian oil exports to the world.
Tim Ripley, a British defence expert who writes for Jane's Defense Weekly, said: "We growl and roar at ambassadors in the hope that all this will disappear."
"At this point in time, I don't see our ability to offer concessions to resolve the crisis. It is another matter to provide safety and escort for ships in the future.
Senior British officials remained relatively calm Sunday after calling Iran's move "hostile" the day before, suggesting that they had not yet decided how to respond.
