U.S. National Security Adviser John Bolton met with South Korean officials on Wednesday to discuss major bilateral issues against the backdrop of trade disputes between South Korea and Japan, stalled North Korea's nuclear negotiations and airspace disputes on Tuesday.
Botton held talks in Seoul with Zheng Yirong, Chief of National Security of Tsing Wa Tai, Zheng Jingdou, Minister of Defense of Korea, and Kang Jing, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Korea, at the exhibition. He discussed issues such as denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula and strengthening the Korea-US alliance.
"I think our main goal is to build a stronger Korea-US alliance, which I know is also your main goal. The Korea-US alliance has really maintained peace in the region for a long time," Botton said before his talks with Kangjing. He used the initials of the official Korean name "Republic of Korea" when referring to the Korea-US alliance.
In public speeches, Bolton and Kang Jing and on issues such as North Korea mentioned only broad objectives, but also hinted at other aspects.
