China will send a delegation to inspect Argentina's soybean meal mill

      Argentine government and industry officials told Reuters that a Chinese delegation will visit Argentina in August to investigate soybean meal crushers, which is a key step for China to open its market.
Argentina is the world's leading exporter of soybean meal and has been trying to penetrate the Chinese market for many years. China is the world's largest consumer of soybean meal, mainly used to meet the needs of its huge pig industry. But China needs to protect its own crushing industry, so it has been resolutely resisting the opening of the market.
Grain traders say global trade uncertainty, including pessimism about the U.S. -China trade negotiations that began Tuesday in Shanghai, has strengthened Argentina's strengths and prompted China to expand its soybean meal import options.
"We will be visiting Chinese officials as part of the process of achieving the goal of exporting soybean meal to China," Santiago del Solar, an Argentine agriculture official, told Reuters.
China is the largest buyer of Argentine soybeans, but does not import processed soybean meal. Soybean meal can be used as pig feed. China has the largest pig production in the world, and domestic consumers are turning to pork and poultry raised with soybean meal.
