Data released by the U.S. government on Thursday showed that China purchased a small amount of U.S. soybeans, wheat, sorghum and pork last week before the latest escalation of trade tensions between China and the United States. In the foreseeable future, this may be the last batch of agricultural products sold by the United States to China.
China's Ministry of Commerce said this week that Chinese companies suspended new U.S. agricultural purchases.
As China suspends purchasing, U.S. exporters will instead focus on completing the orders they received earlier this year when it appeared that an agreement between China and the United States was imminent, including more than 4 million tons of soybeans and nearly 103,500 tons of pork.
