In Washington, U.S. President Trump said the Chinese government was mobilizing troops to the Hong Kong border, and he urged all parties to remain calm.
Trump said the situation in Hong Kong was difficult, but he hoped that the end result would be that all parties, including China, would do their best to promote "freedom" without causing any casualties.
The Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Lin Zheng Yue-e, warned that Hong Kong was facing an "abyss of broken bones".
Protesters pointed their finger at the international airport for the second day in a row on Tuesday. Thousands of demonstrators dressed in black were blocked at the airport.
Clashes broke out in the evening, and an injured man was besieged by a group of demonstrators. Some people said that he was a plainclothes in mainland China, and at first he was not allowed to leave.
But the medical staff put him on a stretcher and pushed the crowd out to the ambulance.
Several police cars were blocked by demonstrators. During the chaos, riot police entered and pepper spray was used to get people back. A policeman once pulled out his pistol.
Demonstrators also blocked part of the airport passageway with baggage trucks, metal roadblocks and other items. There were also demonstrators who climbed up the check-in counter and appeared to have temporarily taken control of some airports. At least two demonstrators were taken away by the police.
