China and the United States agreed to hold high-level economic and trade talks in Washington in early October, cheering investors looking forward to easing the trade war, foreign media reported on September 7.
According to Reuters on September 5, the Ministry of Commerce of China said in a statement that the new round of consultations was arranged when Liu He, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, Vice Premier of the State Council and Chinese leader of the comprehensive economic dialogue between China and the United States, spoke by telephone with Letterheiser, the U.S. trade representative, and Mnuchin, Minister of Finance.
Reported that this will be the first time since the end of July the two sides face-to-face high-level talks.
The Office of the United States Trade Representative did not specify the time of the consultation, saying only that it would be held "in the next few weeks".
In a statement, Jeff Emerson, spokesman for the Office of the United States Trade Representative, said: "Prior to the consultation, the two sides will hold working-level consultations in mid-September to lay the foundation for substantive progress in the high-level consultations."
