Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said U.S. President Trump agreed Wednesday not to impose tariffs on Japan on the grounds that national security was threatened.
"I confirm to U.S. President Trump that the Joint Statement between Japan and the United States means that no tariffs will be imposed on cars or auto parts, and Trump acknowledges this," Abe said at a news conference in New York after his talks with Trump.
"I believe in President Trump, and I can confirm that."
