The World Trade Organization (WTO) said it would issue a ruling at 1400 GMT on the US request to take action against the EU's long-standing dispute over airplane subsidies.
The WTO has ruled that European aircraft manufacturer Airbus (AIR. PA) and American rival Boeing (BA. N) have received billions of dollars in illegal subsidies, a case of mutual control that has been going on for 15 years.
Trade sources said that in the case of Airbus, a three-member WTO ruling panel expected to grant the United States the right to impose tariffs on about $7.5 billion of European imports. With regard to the EU's right to retaliate against Boeing subsidies, the WTO is expected to rule in early 2020.
