Petroamazonas, Ecuador's state-owned oil company, estimated on Tuesday that its crude oil production could lose about 165,000 barrels a day, or about a third, due to the "insecurity" of the oil fields caused by anti-austerity protests.
Sacha, Libertador and Auca fields in the Amazon region of the country were affected. The Ministry of Energy said the protestors "violently" entered Sacha's oil field facilities and forced workers to shut down.
"We oppose all activities that are not conducive to the normal operation of the national energy infrastructure, because they are strategic assets that bring benefits to the country every day." The Ministry said.
In a separate statement, the Ministry of Energy said the blockade of roads had led to fuel shortages in six provinces. Native demonstrators blocked roads across the country, protesting President Moreno's plan to eliminate fuel subsidies to reduce the budget deficit.
