FRANKFURT, Oct. 14, Reuters - A senior government source said on Monday that Germany's new security rules manual will not exclude China Huawei from the ranks of 5G mobile network equipment suppliers in the country.
Despite calls from the United States to boycott Huawei, Germany's "security dialogue" to be announced this week will confirm its decision to provide a level playing field for the next generation of telecom equipment suppliers.
Operators have warned that a boycott of Huawei could delay Germany's launch of 5G networks for several years and add billions of dollars in costs. The 5G network can support ultra fast home broadband, factory interconnection, and maybe one day support for self driving cars.
"Germany does not, and is not expected to, exclude any company," a senior government official told Reuters anonymously.
Federal cyber regulators and cyber security regulators have been working together to develop rules manuals, which were based on technical standards and basic principles of supplier governance in March.
