Since July 2018, trump government has imposed tariffs on industrial parts and technological products imported from China. After China raised tariffs on American agricultural products, trump fought back with more tariff measures -- many of which have been implemented, some of which are still threatening to be implemented. Under the shadow of these tariff measures, by the end of 2019, the vast majority of Chinese goods exported to the United States may be affected.
As negotiators from China and the United States approach a "first stage" trade agreement, expectations are rising that at least some tariffs will be lifted.
China's Ministry of Commerce and a U.S. official said on November 7 that the two sides agreed to cancel tariffs on each other's goods during the trade war if a "first stage" trade agreement was reached. But after opposition from within the government to the Chinese hawks, trump said it had not yet decided whether it would.
