African swine fever is causing global supply to decline

      Noel white, chief executive of Tyson Foods (TSN. N), said on Tuesday that the price of pork in the United States has increased in recent weeks, but usually the price of pork should be reduced at this time. White pointed out that this may be the first time the United States has been significantly affected by the African swine fever epidemic. Tyson previously reported lower than expected quarterly earnings.
White told analysts in a conference call that the rise in pork prices was "very rare" because pork prices usually fell in the autumn. Pig stocks in the United States are higher than ever. The slaughtering volume of live pigs by the meat processing industry increased. At present, about 2.7 million pigs are slaughtered every week, up from about 2.6 million in the same period last year.
But African swine fever is reshaping the global meat market. Affected by the outbreak, China is looking for alternative supplies around the world.
"As the products currently produced are for export, we see price increases," White told analysts in a conference call.
