Two sources familiar with the situation said that the trump administration will grant a two-week extension of the license to allow us companies to continue business with Huawei Technology Co., Ltd. in China.
A source briefed on the matter said that the extension of about two weeks was much shorter than the previous 90 day extension, and the government is currently studying a longer extension, but due to regulatory obstacles, it has not yet been finalized.
After Huawei was blacklisted in May for national security concerns, the U.S. Department of Commerce has allowed the company to purchase some U.S. - made products in an effort to reduce interference with Huawei's customers. Many of Huawei's customers are operators in rural America.
The new extension will be announced on Monday, when the earlier extension will expire, sources said. The source declined to be named because the measure had not been publicly announced.
A Huawei spokesman said the company would not comment on rumors and speculation. The Commerce Department declined to comment.
