Spark New Zealand (SPK. NZ), a New Zealand Telecom and digital service provider, said on Monday that it had abandoned its plan to rely solely on Huawei China to launch 5g services, but would leave Huawei on the list of three preferred equipment suppliers.
Spark said it would launch 5g services in partnership with nokia.he as part of its phased implementation strategy, which has been approved by the New Zealand government.
According to spark, the three preferred suppliers include Nokia, Samsung Electronics (005930. KS) and Huawei. But it has yet to submit an application for Huawei or Samsung devices.
The company's plan to use Huawei equipment met with major obstacles in November 2018, when New Zealand intelligence rejected Spark's proposal to use Huawei equipment on the grounds of national security risks.
