Two ship brokers said on Tuesday that PetroChina had temporarily hired an aframax tanker running the US Europe route at record high freight rates, reflecting strong demand for us low sulfur crude oil.
CNPC temporarily hired the aframagic tanker at ws300 freight point, which will be shipped in the Gulf of Mexico. The ship is currently moored near pascagura, Mississippi, according to EIKON.
A ship broker said the price translates to about $100000 a day, surpassing last week's high of ws245 or about $60700 a day. The broker said crude oil shipments are expected by January 4.
