A senior U.S. diplomat said EU countries have no reason to use Huawei's 5g technology because Ericsson (ericb. St) from Sweden, Nokia (NOK) from Finland and Samsung Electronics (005930. KS) from South Korea are not inferior to China in this field.
Robert Strayer, Deputy Assistant Secretary of state for network, international communication and information policy, said in a visit to Lisbon that it is necessary to break Huawei's concept of 5g technology being more advanced.
Strayer said the United States encourages European countries to carefully consider the security and economic impact of hastily adopting Huawei Technology.
"There is no other way to fully reduce any form of risk than to use suppliers that democracies can trust," Strayer told reporters
"The good news is that Ericsson, Nokia and Samsung all provide 5g technology, which is no less than Huawei's current technology. They are world leaders in the type of technology they have. "
Huawei said it invested $15 billion in research last year to help it take the lead in the market, and that the US has blocked its growth because no US company can offer the same range of technology at competitive prices.
Western suppliers such as Ericsson and Nokia will use open architecture with more functions, which will create opportunities for us and European companies to have compatible devices, Strayer said.
