Governments around the world are trying to increase the number of ventilators (mechanical breathing devices that blow air and oxygen into the lungs) available for their health services.
This equipment is very important for the nursing of patients with pulmonary failure, which may be one of the complications of severe covid-19 patients caused by severe coronavirus. But they don't necessarily save people.
The British media had previously reported the news. A spokeswoman for prime minister Boris Johnson's Downing Street office declined to comment immediately when contacted by Reuters.
The national health service, funded by the UK government, has more than 8000 ventilators, senior government minister Michael gove said on Sunday.
The government is increasing capacity through agreements with the private sector and overseas suppliers, as well as domestic production.
"We've reached an agreement with Dyson, which means - if all the proper tests are passed, we can add another 10000 ventilators," gove said
"There are other companies, from McLaren to Rolls Royce, and others, who are changing their manufacturing methods to participate in national efforts to increase available fan capacity."
McLaren said its formula one car manufacturing, data and electronics businesses are completing many tasks to help deal with the crisis, including making parts.
"McLaren is promoting the replication and expansion of existing equipment production to meet demand (and) a custom cart is being designed and a ventilator is attached to it for use in the clinical environment. "
