New York governor Andrew Cuomo has hired high-energy advisers to develop a science based plan for the region's safe and economic opening that could prevent president Donald Trump from taking the expected pressure to move faster, state government sources told Reuters. Wednesday.
Cuomo, along with many other U.S. governors, shut down the state economy to limit the spread of the deadly covid-19 virus, warning that unless he can ensure public safety, he is ready to shut down the company, possibly for months.
Governors from seven East Coast states formed a coalition Monday under New York's leadership to develop a joint restart plan. Three governors on the West Coast made similar plans. The 10 states, led mainly by Democrats, account for 38% of the U.S. economy.
As part of Cuomo's efforts, McKinsey is developing models for testing, infection and other key data points that will support decisions on how and when to reopen the region's economy, the source said.
Cuomo also recalled three former senior aides: Bill Murrow, senior advisor of Blackstone Group; Steven Cohen, executive vice president and chief executive officer of macandrews & Forbes Inc.; and Larry Schwartz, deputy chief executive of Westchester County.
Deloitte is also involved in developing regional plans, a source said.
Advisers to New Jersey governor Phil Murphy said the goal was to "prevent trump from implementing the plan.".
