President trump said Monday that the U.S. government is considering the possibility of suspending imports of Saudi Arabian crude oil to support the battered domestic oil drilling industry.
"Well, I'll study it." Trump replied at a daily press conference when asked by some Republican lawmakers to block Saudi Crude oil according to his administrative authority.
"I didn't hear it until I came into the room. Of course we have enough oil, so I will study it. "
U.S. crude oil futures collapsed on Monday, falling to a negative value for the first time in history. In May, the settlement price of U.S. crude oil contracts fell 306% to $37.63 a barrel, hitting a historical low of $40.32 a barrel.
This has put the once booming US oil industry in danger of bankruptcy.
