The British government on Tuesday announced a new tariff system after brexit to replace the EU's common foreign tariffs, which will include maintaining a 10% tariff on cars, mutton, beef, poultry and other agricultural products.
The UK government said the new tariff system, known as UK global tariff (ukgt), would be simpler and cheaper than the EU's common foreign tariffs.
"Our new global tariffs will benefit British consumers and families by cutting red tape and reducing the cost of thousands of everyday products," said Elizabeth trass, the UK's minister of international trade
Under the new tariff system, tariffs on a wide range of products will be eliminated: from January 2021, 60% of trade will enter the UK duty-free under WTO terms or through existing preferential access.
The UK will maintain tariffs on some products that support the UK's agriculture, automotive and fisheries industries, and will eliminate tariffs on imports worth £ 30 billion that enter the UK supply chain.
