Taiwan's Hon Hai (2317.TW) said Monday that it will complete the construction of a new Wisconsin plant to assemble liquid crystal displays (LCDs) and begin production by the end of next year.
Hon Hai said that the next phase of the plant's construction project will be carried out before this summer. "The new plant will start production in the fourth quarter of 2020."
Hon Hai originally planned that Weizhou New Factory would produce advanced large screen displays for TV, other consumer or professional products. Later, however, Hon Hai said it would build a smaller sixth-generation LCD panel plant instead.
Hon Hai reiterated in February that it would continue to build a factory in Wisconsin, following talks between its chairman and President Trump. Earlier, Reuters reported that Hon Hai was reconsidering the plan.
Reuters reported in January that Hon Hai was reconsidering its production plan for a $10 billion LCD panel plant in Wisconsin, USA, and said it planned to recruit engineers and R&D personnel.
