China Huawei Technologies Co., the world's third largest smartphone maker, reported on Friday that its net profit rose 25% in 2018, thanks to the robust performance of the domestic market and the booming sales of smartphones.
In 2018, Huawei's net profit reached 59.3 billion yuan ($8.8 billion), up 28% in 2017 and 0.4% in 2016, respectively.
But the U.S. accusation of Huawei has clouded its prospects. The United States says the Chinese government may use Huawei's telecommunications network equipment for espionage and calls on its allies to ban Huawei from participating in the construction of the next generation of mobile communication networks.
Huawei has repeatedly said that the Chinese government has no influence on it.
Huawei's revenue grew by 19.5% to 721.2 billion yuan last year, in line with previous company statements.
For Huawei, this is the fastest growth rate in two years, despite the close scrutiny of its operations.
A Huawei executive said earlier this week that U.S. measures against Huawei had little impact on company sales and that many countries were unlikely to follow U.S. calls to ban Huawei's equipment.
