After the World Trade Organization (WTO) issued the report of the panel of experts on the case of the United States v. China on tariff quota management measures for wheat, rice and maize, the Ministry of Commerce of China said that the panel of experts had found that China's relevant tariff quota management measures violated its accession commitments, and China regretted that.
China welcomes the fact that the panel rejected the U.S. appeal for the release of quota distribution information, and will continue to manage the import tariff quotas for agricultural products in a manner consistent with WTO rules, the head of the Treaty Law Division of the Ministry of Commerce said in a statement posted on the Ministry's website on Friday.
The person in charge said that China has always respected the WTO rules, will carefully evaluate the report of the expert group, properly handle it in accordance with the WTO dispute settlement procedures, actively safeguard the stability of the multilateral trading system, and continue to manage import tariff quotas for agricultural products in a manner consistent with the WTO rules.
The United States won a World Trade Organization (WTO) ruling on Thursday that China's tariff quotas on rice, wheat and maize were not in line with China's WTO commitments and restricted U.S. grain exports from entering the Chinese market.
