Feng Kai, a professor at the School of Mechanical and Transportation Engineering, Hunan University, introduced that the basic principle of aerodynamic bearing technology is similar to "aircraft take-off". When the speed of the aircraft to the ground reaches a certain level, it can "hang" in the air. When the rotating shaft of the rotating equipment reaches a certain speed, it can also "suspend" in the air without external auxiliary equipment. Therefore, the aerodynamic bearing technology can achieve the speed that conventional bearing technology can not reach. At the same time, due to the use of gas as suspension medium and insensitive to temperature, aerodynamic bearing technology can adapt to a wide temperature range, which is very suitable for the requirements of power density, speed, life and temperature of aerospace equipment. Up to now, the team and aerospace institutes have developed super-high-speed equipment such as air-suspended high-speed gyroscope and gas-suspended high-speed turbogenerator.
Feng Kai also introduced the "aerostatic bearing technology". The basic working principle of this technology is to introduce gas into the relative motion of two objects by external high-pressure gas, to separate the objects and achieve non-contact suspension. The team and the Institute used static pressure gas suspension technology to simulate the micro gravity and frictionless working environment in space, providing ground simulation conditions for spacecraft. Several multi-DOF attitude simulation platforms have been designed and implemented successively. "In the future, with the increasing weight of spacecraft, the fidelity of simulating space environment is required to be higher and higher, and the bearing capacity and accuracy of air flotation technology are required to be higher. We will also carry out more systematic and detailed work in lubrication mechanism, bearing materials, structural design and system integration."
