According to Reuters local time on June 3, on the same day, US Secretary of State Pompeo visited the Netherlands to continue peddling US policy towards China, such as the so-called "trade injustice" and Huawei's "security issues". But the Netherlands doesn't seem to be eating that.
At a joint press conference with Dutch Foreign Minister Steve Brock on Wednesday, Pompeo said that Trump wanted to ensure that Chinese and American companies did business on an equal footing.
"We are very concerned about Western companies. American companies and other companies entering the Chinese market are not treated as equally as Chinese companies entering the Western market."
He started his old routine again, claiming that Chinese companies could invest in the Netherlands, but Dutch companies had to submit information to the Communist Party of China when they wanted to invest in China, which was not open trade.
Then Pompeo continued to ask his allies to stand in line without evidence: "We have made it clear that our requirements are that our allies, partners and friends not do anything that endangers our common security interests or limits our ability to share sensitive information."
But in the face of threats outside Pompeo's language, Block said that while the Netherlands wants to keep its policies in line with those of its allies, each country must make its own security decisions.
