Japan's Nintendo (7974.T) spokesman said Tuesday that it plans to diversify its production base by shifting part of its Switch console production from China to Vietnam.
Nintendo plans to implement this production part transfer plan this summer. Nintendo currently outsources almost all game console production to contract manufacturers in China.
The spokesman said this was to diversify risks, not to circumvent possible tariffs imposed by the United States on Chinese imports into the United States.
For the time being, the United States will not impose tariffs on Chinese imports worth $300 billion. If the tariffs are imposed, almost all Chinese imports to the United States will be subject to tariffs.
