American Boeing (BA.N) is about to lose its seat as the world's largest aircraft manufacturer. The company reported a 37% drop in aircraft deliveries in the first half, affected by the long-term grounding of its best-selling MAX model.
Boeing's aircraft delivery lagged behind Airbus (AIR.PA). The latter said Tuesday that 389 aircraft were delivered in the first half of the year, an increase of 28% over the same period last year. Reuters reported Airbus aircraft deliveries on Friday, citing sources.
These data suggest that Boeing's annual aircraft delivery is likely to be less than that of Airbus, which will be the first time in eight years.
The grounded MAX found a new problem last month, delaying its return flight until at least the end of September, disrupting airlines'flight plans and possibly increasing Boeing's costs.
Seth Seifman, an analyst at JPMorgan Chase, speculated that the delay might prompt Boeing to consider a further cut in production and to charge additional fees in the second quarter, which would further affect the profit margin of the 737.
