It has been more than three years since the referendum decided to withdraw from Europe. More than two months later, Britain is facing the most serious constitutional crisis in decades and a showdown with the EU over its withdrawal.
Johnson angered the opposition Wednesday by using a parliamentary mechanism to adjourn Parliament for more than a month before Britain withdrew from Europe.
John Bercow, the Speaker of the House of Commons, called it an insult to the Constitution, which limited the time for parliament to debate and shape the course of British history.
Jeremy Corbyn, the head of the Labour Party, said his party would start the legislative process on Tuesday as soon as the summer recess of Parliament was over and oppose a no-agreement withdrawal from Europe. He said no agreement would hit employment and the economy.
"What we have to do on Tuesday is to try to stop him politically (Johnson), we will pass a parliamentary procedure to stop the non-agreement withdrawal from Europe, and we will try to prevent him from closing Parliament at this critical time," Colbin told reporters.
"The country is in danger of leaving Europe without an agreement on October 31," he said. "We have to stop that. That's what we're going to do next Tuesday."
Five other opposition parties, including the Liberal Democratic Party and the Scottish National Party (SNP), later joined Labour in a joint statement calling on Johnson to let parliamentarians vote on whether parliament should adjourn.
The president of the United States was encouraged by Johnson's plan to suspend Parliament for longer than usual, but it drew fierce criticism from some British MPs and the media, as well as from some members of the Conservative Party of Johnson.
