German defense minister angelet Kramp karrenbauer said Tuesday that Germany may still decide to exclude Huawei, the Chinese telecom equipment supplier, from the country's fifth generation data network (5g) construction for security reasons.
At a conference on cybersecurity organised by Handelsblatt, Krapp callenbauer said it was important to minimise any risk.
She added that the German government is currently developing 5g security standards to prevent foreign governments from gaining access to Germany's important infrastructure.
"If we can't, then we have to ban Huawei from participating, just like other countries," she said. Krapp callenbauer is a close ally of Chancellor Angela Merkel.
